Retired Watchmaker

I started my career, as an apprentice watchmaker, turning on a 6mm lathe. I have been involved with watches, clocks and jewellery ever since and finished my working life restoring antique watches. When I retired I started looking for an indoor hobby, I had my cycling in the good weather but needed something to occupy me when the weather was bad. I tried various activities such as the mouth organ, guitar and electronic organ, before admitting that had no musical ability whatsoever. I then tried whittling and wood carving, and at last 6 months ago I discivered woodturning. After being a lifelong cyclist I converted my wheel turning into bowl turning. Although my workshop only measures 9' x 8', I manageto fit everything in, I conserve energy for turning (as I don't have far to walk between equipment). I am enjoying the challenge and variety of things to make, in particular small boxes and bowls, and the many different finishes to master.
